Back in November 2022, we embarked on an exciting journey to enhance our sustainability efforts. We reached out to Mainfreight to help us arrange the shipping of an electric tractor from the USA – the first of its kind to be imported to New Zealand.

A Collaborative Effort for a Historic Shipment

Our collaboration with Mainfreight to bring the Monarch Electric Tractor to New Zealand was a fantastic team effort. The tractor, being just the 66th ever made and the first to be exported out of California, presented unique challenges. The shipping arrangements required careful coordination and a complex Dangerous Goods approval process.

Mainfreight Air and Ocean teams in Dunedin and San Francisco worked closely together to navigate these challenges. Nearly a year after starting this journey, we successfully landed the Monarch Electric Tractor at Lyttelton Port. The final leg of the journey was completed by Mainfreight's Cromwell Transport Team, who delivered the tractor to our orchard using an electric truck.
